The XRP (CRYPTO:XRP) price has traded between $0.99 and $1.00 this week and is down roughly 47% since the start of the year. Even so, $5 keeps coming up as a target, and one influencer with 552,000 followers predicted XRP would reach it before the end of October.
For XRP to reach $5, its market capitalization would have to climb to about $313 billion, around 5X its current $62.3 billion valuation. So what would XRP need for a move that size?
What Would XRP Be Worth At $5?

The XRP price would need to rally 405% from $0.99 to reach $5. That would add roughly $251 billion to XRP’s market value, bringing it to $313 billion, which is more than XRP was worth even at its all-time high of $3.84.
XRP has produced gains that big before, but they happened when the coin was far smaller. When XRP hit $3.84 in January 2018, it had roughly 38.4 billion tokens in circulation and a market cap around $148 billion.
However, the circulating supply has grown to 62.7 billion since then. So XRP reaching that same $3.84 today would produce a $240 billion market cap, which is $92 billion more than 2018 for an identical price. Every dollar of gain now moves the market cap roughly 63% further than it did.
That is why $5 asks for so much. At $313 billion, XRP would overtake Ethereum and become the second-biggest crypto after Bitcoin’s $1.30 trillion, which means passing a network that runs most of the stablecoin and tokenization market.
What Catalysts Could Push XRP to $5?

Three things could lift the XRP price from here, and each one has a measurable state today.
CLARITY Act
The CLARITY Act would classify XRP as a commodity under federal law, settling the regulatory question that has hung over the token since the SEC sued Ripple in 2020. It remains XRP’s most important catalyst in 2026.
The bill cleared the Senate Banking Committee in May with a 15-9 bipartisan vote, and XRP rallied above $1.50 before falling back to around $1.40. That reaction is the only real evidence of what this bill does to the price, and a committee vote moved XRP roughly 50%.
After the bill stalled in the Senate for several months, Senate Majority Leader John Thune filed a cloture motion on August 8—a procedural vote that ends debate and forces a floor vote—to bring the CLARITY Act to a vote on September 15. The motion needs 60 votes, so 7 Democrats would have to join all 53 Republicans for it to pass.
If the Senate passes the bill, a move on the scale of May’s would put the XRP price near $2 by the end of September.
XRP ETFs
XRP ETFs have taken in $1.51 billion since launching in November 2025, but $1.17 billion of that arrived in the first two months alone. Monthly inflows peaked at $131.94 million in May, and weekly XRP ETF inflows have since dropped 93% to $1.01 million by early August.
If monthly inflows returned to May’s pace, those funds would pull more XRP off the market and reduce the supply available to trade, which could support the XRP price above $2. Reaching $5 is a different scale of problem, since $131.94 million a month cannot move a $62.3 billion market cap to $313 billion.
Institutional Adoption
Ripple expanded its cross-border payment network in 2026 through deals with Deutsche Bank, JPMorgan and Mastercard, and it picked up a MiCA Crypto Asset Service Provider license and an Electronic Money Institution license in the EU, which let it offer regulated financial services across all 30 EEA countries under one license instead of applying country by country.
None of that has lifted the XRP price in 2026, and the reason is how institutions use the token. Most only pass XRP through their systems to settle a cross-border payment, converting straight back out at the other end, so the transaction creates no lasting demand. For XRP to reach $5, institutions would have to hold it as an investment instead, and nothing in Ripple’s 2026 deals requires them to.
Could XRP Realistically Reach $5 in 2026?
The XRP price would need a 405% rally in less than five months to reach $5 this year. XRP took nearly eight months to rally 265% from about $1 in November 2024 to its cycle high of $3.65 in July 2025, which was the highest price of that market cycle. So $5 asks for a bigger move in half the time, and that makes it an aggressive target.
Our view is that XRP has a low chance of reaching $5 by December. The CLARITY Act would have to clear the Senate in September. XRP ETF inflows would have to return to May’s pace and hold there. And Bitcoin would have to lead a broad rally that pulls money into the larger altcoins.
Even with all three, XRP has not closed above $2 since January 17, so it would have to reclaim that level before $3.65 and then $5 enter the conversation. XRP has fallen more than 70% from its cycle high, and clearing $2 would at least show it can hold a much higher valuation again.
