XRP (CRYPTO:XRP) is trading at about $1.41, down about 61% from its July 2025 peak of $3.65. The cryptocurrency has fallen 41% over the past year and 6.4% in the past week, despite a strong 39% surge over the last two months.

So, what does the future hold for XRP, and which scenario is most likely? Let’s break it down.

XRP’s Market Value Sets the Math for Every 2028 Scenario

To understand XRP’s potential value in 2028, we start with market capitalization. We calculate it by multiplying the coin’s price by the total number of coins in circulation, giving us an estimate of the asset’s overall value. Currently, XRP’s market value stands at about $89 billion, with around 63.1 billion coins in circulation.

Analysts often rely on market valuation to test future prices. As market value rises, it usually requires new investment to fuel growth. The total cryptocurrency market is valued at roughly $2.81 trillion, and XRP represents about 3.16% of that.

We will explore three scenarios, each based on a different assumption but keeping other factors constant for easy comparison. Notably, we will use the current supply for calculations. However, Ripple will continue releasing more XRP into circulation over time, which could affect market values.

Scenario One Puts XRP at $2.15 if Its Market Share Holds

In this scenario, we assume that XRP maintains its current 3.16% market share as the overall cryptocurrency market rebounds to its previous peak of $4.3 trillion by 2028. Based on this share, XRP would be valued at around $2.15 per coin, for a market capitalization of about $136 billion.

This is the least demanding scenario for XRP since it only needs to keep pace with the overall market recovery. However, if the cryptocurrency market fails to regain its previous high, the projected value of $2.15 would likely drop as well.

Scenario Two Needs a 159% Gain for XRP to Reclaim $3.65

In this case, we assume XRP can recover its all-time high of $3.65 by 2028, which would require a 159% price increase. Recent developments, such as support from new U.S. spot XRP funds holding about $1.57 billion in assets, could help drive this growth. Additionally, Evernorth—a treasury company that actively holds XRP—lists on Nasdaq on October 12, and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has categorized XRP as a digital commodity.

While these factors may bolster demand, fund investors can withdraw at any time, and treasury companies might halt purchases. Therefore, this scenario relies on enough fresh investment to make up the entire decline from $3.65.

Scenario Three Repeats 2018 and Points to $0.73

This scenario suggests XRP might follow a trajectory similar to what it did after the January 2018 peak, when it fell by over 80%. If that happened again, an 80% drop from $3.65 would bring the price to around $0.73.

Significant declines after a peak have been a common occurrence in the world of cryptocurrency, so this possibility merits serious consideration. However, the XRP landscape has changed since 2018, especially with the conclusion of the SEC’s lawsuit against Ripple and the existence of dedicated XRP funds. Still, XRP has already seen a substantial decline of 61% from its peak.

So, What Might XRP Be Worth in 2028?

Based on these scenarios, XRP’s value will likely fall between $0.73 and $3.65 by 2028, with $2.15 as a more moderate estimate that requires XRP to keep pace with the overall market. The key factor that determines its ultimate value will be XRP’s share of the total cryptocurrency market.

If XRP maintains or exceeds its 3.16% market share while the total market grows towards $4.3 trillion, the $2.15 scenario remains viable. However, if XRP’s market share drops below 3.16%, a repeat of 2018 could become the more realistic outlook for 2028.
