XRP News: Germany’s Savings Banks Have Started Selling XRP. Could That Bring In New Buyers?
Germany's Sparkassen savings banks just added XRP to their apps, putting the token in front of millions of conservative savers who have never touched crypto. Whether that translates into real buying pressure is a different question entirely.

Germany’s Sparkassen savings banks, a trusted choice for many German families, have started selling XRP (CRYPTO:XRP). On October 19, 2026, the first customers gained access to Sparkassen crypto trading through the Sparkasse banking app they already use, with a selection that includes Bitcoin (CRYPTO:BTC), Ethereum (CRYPTO:ETH), XRP, Solana (CRYPTO:SOL), and Polygon (CRYPTO:POL).
The service is rolling out gradually. Initially, only select banks were activated, but the German Savings Banks Association (DSGV) plans to include 30 to 40 more Sparkassen each month.
On launch day, XRP’s price fell slightly, starting at around $1.31 and closing at about $1.30. As of October 20, it trades at $1.29, a 5.8% drop over the past week. While a well-known bank now offers XRP to everyday German savers, the question remains whether this initiative will attract new buyers or only add another feature to a banking app.
Sparkassen Offer Crypto With No Advice or Promotion

Sparkassen are locally owned, public savings banks that typically earn money through traditional means, such as loans, deposits, account fees, and investment products. Introducing crypto trading allows them to offer an additional service to customers who might otherwise look to app-only banks.
However, the DSGV described the new crypto service in narrow terms. “The offering is aimed at customers who want to buy, sell and store cryptocurrencies independently,” the association stated, emphasizing that Sparkassen won’t provide advice or actively promote the service.
Here, “store” refers to custody, where the bank securely holds customers’ cryptocurrencies, similar to how a brokerage holds stocks. When a Sparkasse customer purchases XRP, they can track its price through the app, while the bank manages the safekeeping of the assets.
The launch date can vary by bank. “When a Sparkasse starts is its own decision,” said Joachim Schmalzl, a member of the DSGV’s executive board, adding that the association aims to connect many interested Sparkassen in the first half of 2027.
The DSGV said customer demand and a solid European legal framework influenced the decision, likely referring to the EU’s MiCA regulations, which set standards for crypto businesses across the region.
Sparkassen Are Selling XRP, Not Using It

Ripple, the company closely associated with XRP, is not directly involved in this launch. The DSGV’s announcement did not mention Ripple’s payment network, the XRP Ledger, or its RLUSD stablecoin.
Additionally, the Sparkassen have not indicated any plans to use XRP as a settlement asset, a role many holders hope it will fulfill in facilitating payments between banks. In this context, XRP is only another product offered, meaning that any increase in demand must come from customers choosing to buy it rather than banks needing it for operations.
Before October 19, Germans already had various ways to buy XRP. App-only banks like N26, Trade Republic, and Revolut had been offering crypto trading for some time, and cooperative banks, known as Volksbanken, also joined. The new buyers are likely to be those who would typically purchase cryptocurrencies exclusively at their own Sparkasse.
XRP will share the spotlight with more established cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum, which new investors often choose first. Many conservative savers at public savings banks may lean toward Bitcoin, suggesting XRP might capture a smaller share of new investment than its spot on the launch list implies.
Early Trading Data Shows No XRP Surge After Launch

Schmalzl mentioned that interest in the new offering is “great,” adding that more banks are joining “week by week.” However, as a senior member of the group rolling out this product, he has not provided specific customer numbers or trading volumes to support these claims.
Trading data for XRP shows no notable surge following the launch. Daily trading volume on October 19 was about 46.8 million, only slightly up from 46.6 million the previous day. Both days were significantly below the 204.8 million recorded on September 25.
Can Sparkassen Crypto Trading Attract New Buyers for XRP?
Yes, but likely only a small number, not enough to significantly influence XRP’s price in the near term. The Sparkassen benefit from additional fee income and gain a reason to retain younger customers, while Ripple gains positive publicity without a formal agreement. Because the Sparkassen won’t offer advice or promote the service, potential new buyers must independently find the crypto tab and choose XRP over the other options available.
The impact depends on how many banks activate the service, and how fast. If XRP’s daily trading volume rises and stays above the initial launch figure of 46.8 million as more banks join through the first half of 2027, German savers are likely to engage in new buying. However, if volume stays flat while more banks come on board, the listing may primarily benefit individuals who were already interested in buying XRP.
