It is the new year, which means millions of Americans are looking to make good on resolutions and work off extra pounds put on over the holidays. Not surprisingly, many are also looking to invest in the still nascent field of wearable tech and other fitness gadgets.
Over 300 million people worldwide own wearable fitness watches and bands. Companies like Apple, maker of the Apple Watch, which is now in its third generation, as well as fitness tech manufacturers like Fitbit and Garmin, dominate this market. There are also plenty of less well-known manufacturers that have introduced competitive products, including Moov, Motiv, and Lumo.
While wearable tech, which includes smart watches, fitness bands, heart rate monitor, and pedometers, remain the most popular fitness gadgets, new kinds of devices are being introduced constantly. Smart scales that track weight changes and connect to smartphone apps, for example, as well as smart cups, smart forks, and almost every other product one can imagine, are now sold with app connectivity.
The range of available devices for those looking to invest in a gadget to help them lose weight and stay fit can be overwhelming. For this reason, 24/7 Wall St. conducted a comprehensive review of the best in fitness tech, wearable or otherwise. This list is by no means a recommendation, only an aggregation of what fitness gadgets receive the best ratings.
We considered reviews and best-of lists from expert review sites such as Consumer Reports and CNET. To make this list, products must have received ratings of four stars or above — or the equivalent — on multiple notable review sites, as well as appear in best-of lists. We excluded any products that had poor ratings on Amazon.
Items included on this list were selected based exclusively on this methodology. This article includes affiliate links, and 24/7 Wall St. may get a share of the revenue from sales.
