Gartner, the research group, put out its annual report on server share worldwide. Hewlett-Packard (HPQ) was No.2 in worldwide market share, but its sales fell 2.3% to $14.2 billion. Leader IBM (IBM) had an increase in revenue of 1.7% to $16.9 million.

Sun (SUNW) did unusually well. Its revenue was up 15.4% to $5.7 billion and Dell’s (DELL) sales were flat at $5.4 billion.

HP’s units shipments were up 8% to 2.26 million, so it would appear that yield-per-unit dropped.

HP has been on a roll, although its most recent earnings sent the stock down.

If critical segments of the big tech company like servers continue to struggle on the topline, that stock could move down further.
