Short Interest in 3D Printing Stocks Fading

Short interest during the two-week period ending November 30 fell on three of the four 3D printing stocks we follow. Trading was much less active, with days to cover rising on shares in all four companies.

Short interest in 3D Systems Corp. (NYSE: DDD) fell by 12.3% to 23.9 million shares. Some 22.5% of the company’s float was short. Days to cover rose from seven to 14. In the two-week short interest period, the share price fell by 3.1%. The stock’s 52-week trading range is $6.00 to $19.76, and shares closed at $15.49 on Friday, down about 0.6% on the day.

Stratasys Ltd. (NASDAQ: SSYS) saw short interest fall by 19.7% in the final two weeks of November to about 5.86 million shares, or 12.1% of the company’s float. Days to cover rose from four to six. The share price fell nearly 12% in the two-week period, and the stock closed at $19.63 on Friday, up less than 0.1% on the day, in a 52-week range of $14.48 to $30.46.

Short interest in The ExOne Co. (NASDAQ: XONE) fell by 9.9% to 2.15 million shares. About 19.9% of the company’s shares were short. ExOne’s share price fell by about 8.4% in the two weeks. The stock’s 52-week range is $6.60 to $16.15, and shares closed at $10.35 on Friday, down 1.9% for the day. Days to cover rose from 13 to 20.

The number of American depositary shares short in Voxeljet A.G. (NYSE: VJET) decreased by 3.7% to 566,988, with days to cover rising from 10 to 12. The share price fell by 8.9% in the period. The stock closed at $3.55 on Friday, up about 1.4% for the day, in a 52-week range of $3.20 to $6.50.
