Huawei CEO Ren Zhengfei sent a signal on CNBC Sunday. But to whom?

“Mr. Jobs was great not because he created Apple, but because he created an era, the mobile internet era,” Ren told CNBC. “Saying that he was great is an understatement. I think he was super-great.”

From CNBC:

My take: Who’s he trying to persuade? Tim Cook, who’s said to have 1,000 Apple engineers racing to design their own  5G modems? Or Donald Trump, who has been warned by spymasters (and Fox News) that Huawei’s chipsets could contain a Chinese Trojan horse?

UPDATE: Apparently Huawei has been sending the “open” signal for nearly a week. This from Engadget on April 9:
