IBM's Virtualization Push (IBM, VMW, CTXS, MSFT, ORCL)

IBM (NYSE: IBM) is getting deeper into the race in virtualization. The company is entering what was a fast growth and now suddenly crowded space along with the clear virtualization leader VMware Inc. (NYSE: VMW). Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) has tried to make a dent here, as has Citrix Systems (NASDAQ: CTXS), and even Oracle Corp. (NASDAQ: ORCL) recently acquired VirtualIron and some from its acquisition of Sun Microsystems.
IBM has announced new systems software for managing virtualized servers that is designed to help clients plan, build and maintain data centers while reducing costs.
Power Systems(TM) clients will also have an upgraded path to its next-generation servers that will include POWER7 microprocessors. IBM Systems Director VMControl gives clients a tool to manage virtual servers.
VMControl is part of the IBM Systems Director family of software for the management of IBM servers, storage and networking.
Frankly, there are many more details in the press release. The problem is that growth in virtualization has been at least somewhat derailed, and the space is already crowded with me-too press releases about who has and has not arrived in the space.
