Apple is the last Mag 7 stock still beating the S&P 500 in 2026
As seen on the 24/7 Wall St. homepage on November 1, 2026.
Sitting out the capex race is now the trade that works: the only Mag 7 name beating the index this year is holding back its cash flow from AI buildouts.
Apple is now the only Mag 7 stock that is outperforming the S&P 500 this year. Why? It generates more free cash flow than any other Mag 7 company while largely avoiding the AI spending binge that is draining its hyperscaler peers. Video: https://t.co/WUvO57pung https://t.co/p8qzENDyaG

As every other member of the Magnificent 7 has fallen behind the broader index this year, Apple has quietly separated itself by doing the opposite of its peers: holding back from the massive AI capital spending that has weighed on the group.
According to Charlie Bilello, Apple generates more free cash flow than any other Mag 7 company, and it has largely avoided the AI infrastructure buildout that is draining the balance sheets of its hyperscaler rivals. That capital discipline is showing up directly in relative performance.

The rest of the Mag 7 has been repriced around the assumption that heavy AI spending eventually pays off, and Apple's outperformance is a live data point that the market is, at least for now, rewarding capital discipline.
Whether Apple can hold that edge depends on how long investors stay skeptical of AI capital return timelines. If sentiment shifts back toward growth spending, the calculus changes quickly, but for the moment Apple's cash generation is the trade that is working.
