Bloom Energy surges 11% to lead a volatile September 29 session

Bloom Energy stood alone at the top of a 383-name priority list on September 29, closing at $292.34 after an 11.21% gain that no other name in the group came close to matching. The next-best performer, Royal Caribbean Cruises, finished up 7.35%, a solid move in its own right but still behind Bloom.

Behind Royal Caribbean, the rest of the top gainers clustered tightly together, with Lumentum, Duolingo, and Applied Materials all advancing between 5% and 6%. That compression in the middle of the leaderboard made Bloom's double-digit gain look even more exceptional by comparison.

The losing side of the ledger was nearly as dramatic, with AMC Entertainment down 7.45% and DraftKings close behind, meaning the two hardest-hit names both shed more than seven cents on the dollar in a single session. Asana, fuboTV, and Schlumberger took smaller but still meaningful losses.

Taken together, the session illustrated a market willing to make sharp distinctions between winners and losers. With a spread of nearly 19 percentage points between the top gainer and the steepest loser, investors positioned in the right names had a very different Tuesday than those who were not.
