Hang Seng Opens 1% Higher as Shanghai Slips Into the Red

Hong Kong opened 1.01% higher while mainland shares went the other way, and that gap is where the money is moving: offshore China exposure is drawing the bids away from Shanghai.

The Hang Seng opened just over 1% higher on September 16, ending two straight sessions of losses.
The SSE Composite slipped 0.3% at the same moment, so the two markets opened pulling in opposite directions. That divergence points to investors actively choosing offshore China exposure.

This morning's bounce interrupts the recent slide, but the index is still well below its recent peak, leaving room for the move to prove itself as the session unfolds.
