Lam Research reported adjusted non-GAAP earnings of $2.20 per share for its fiscal first quarter of 2027, exceeding expectations, with revenue also clearing expectations as chipmakers accelerated spending on semiconductor fabrication equipment.

The biggest engine behind that growth was systems revenue, which reached $5.73 billion as customers raced to expand capacity for the increasingly complex device architectures that AI workloads demand. CEO Tim Archer called it a record quarter for revenue, profit, and earnings per share, crediting AI-driven demand and the company's own operational execution for the results.

Despite the across-the-board beat, shares sold off immediately after the filing, a reminder that strong numbers are often already priced in by the time they are confirmed. Management's guidance for the December quarter, roughly $8.60 billion in revenue, suggests the momentum is expected to continue, with AI capacity buildouts pulling systems orders forward.

China represented $2.88 billion of revenue in the quarter, making regulatory developments and export controls a key variable to monitor going forward. Operating cash flow more than doubled year over year, and the company returned capital to shareholders through treasury stock purchases alongside a cash dividend.

Lam has now beaten consensus EPS estimates for six consecutive quarters, a streak that reflects the durability of the AI-driven equipment cycle and the company's ability to convert that demand into margin expansion. Non-GAAP gross margin widened to 52.4%, giving the company considerable financial flexibility heading into the back half of its fiscal year.
