London finished up 0.2%, roughly a third of the DAX's 0.65% gain, leaving UK equities the laggard of the continent again with the Bank of England rate path still unsettled.

The FTSE 100 finished 0.2% higher, a modest gain that lagged the rest of Europe.

The DAX gained 0.65% and the CAC 40 rose 0.51%, leaving London's benchmark well behind both of its major continental peers. UK equities have repeatedly found themselves in this position.

Both the DAX and CAC 40 recovered from morning weakness and pushed higher in the afternoon, while the FTSE held closer to the flatline throughout.

The Bank of England's rate path remains unsettled, and that uncertainty continues to weigh on the case for UK equities relative to European alternatives. Until there is more clarity on rates, London keeps lagging the continent on up days like this one.
