TSMC is reportedly planning to raise prices for its CoWoS advanced packaging by up to 20% next year, according to analyst Beth Kindig, as demand for the technology continues to climb.

CoWoS, or Chip on Wafer on Substrate, binds high-bandwidth memory to logic chips inside AI accelerators, so every chip maker using TSMC for this step absorbs the increase straight into cost of goods.

TSMC is the dominant supplier of advanced packaging at this scale, leaving customers limited leverage to push back or quickly source alternatives.

For investors tracking the AI hardware supply chain, this is a margin event at the companies most dependent on TSMC's CoWoS capacity. Either cloud customers pay more or chip maker margins compress.
