London led Europe into the close with a 0.34% gain, outpacing Frankfurt and Paris even as the Bank of England leans toward hikes with inflation set to top 4%.

The FTSE 100 closed at 14,371, finishing ahead of both Frankfurt and Paris as London took the lead among major European markets.
The DAX and the CAC 40 both ended the session higher but trailed the London index despite a broad European recovery into the close.
The index slipped into negative territory through the middle of the day before a sustained push in the final stretch pulled it back into positive ground.
With the Bank of England leaning toward further rate hikes as inflation is set to top 4%, the pound and UK rate-sensitive equities remain live variables. Investors watching London cannot afford to treat this as a routine close.
