The FTSE 100 closed at 14,357, a loss of 0.7% on the day.

The decline was broad across the continent, with Frankfurt's DAX the worst performer of the three major European benchmarks and Paris's CAC 40 holding the smallest loss.

The shared timing of the reversal across London, Frankfurt, and Paris points to a session-wide shift in sentiment. All three opened higher and turned negative in near-unison.
