The FTSE 100 closed at 10,812.97, up 0.19%, a gain that looks thin next to the rest of Europe.
The CAC 40 climbed 1.08%, more than five times London's advance, and the DAX added 0.43%. Investors holding only UK large caps sat out another faster session on the continent.
