If you're applying to 50 jobs per day on LinkedIn, I can tell you that you're not going to get any leads there. During my job search, I applied to no more than 3-4 per day and these were targeted jobs where I was very qualified and I spent a fair amount of time tweaking my resume and cover letter to match each job description. Rapid fire applications rarely produce results.

Emergency fund gone, retirement account drained, and $4,200 a month in fixed costs still due before the February shutoff notices arrive. The thread's hardest lesson: a single client concentration risk can take down a household the same way it takes down a business.

A self-employed household in r/povertyfinance has burned through emergency savings and retirement accounts, and the single remaining client just ended the contract. Rent is deferred through a landlord agreement, but other fixed costs run $4,200 a month and utility shutoff notices could arrive as early as February.

Concentrating income in one client left no cushion when that relationship ended, and the emergency fund and retirement savings that might have absorbed the shock were already spent covering earlier shortfalls. The landlord has agreed not to evict through the lease end in June, but unpaid rent continues to accrue and will eventually come due.

The top comment argued that sending 50 LinkedIn applications a day is counterproductive. The advice: no more than 3 to 4 targeted applications daily, each with a resume and cover letter tailored to the specific job description, because rapid-fire applications rarely produce leads.

Other commenters pushed toward immediate cash: selling a car, donating plasma, seasonal work at retailers or fast-food locations, and same-day gigs on Facebook Marketplace, Nextdoor, and Craigslist. Several also flagged 211, the social-services hotline, as a starting point for fuel assistance and food stamps.
