The S&P 500 is up 49.84 points to 7,759.82 at midday, building on a previous close of 7,709.98. The gain is solid but uneven: the Nasdaq Composite is running nearly three times as fast, up 0.91%, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average is limping along at just 0.21%.

That gap tells a familiar story about where conviction sits right now. Technology is doing the heavy lifting, pulling the broader index higher while industrial names contribute little to what the facts describe as a record run. Investors holding a portfolio tilted toward manufacturers, energy, or other Dow-heavy sectors are watching this leg of the rally largely from the sidelines.

The intraday S&P 500 chart shows the index opened the session already up roughly 1.7% from the prior close and spent the morning gradually extending those gains, touching a high near 2% before settling back into the 0.6% range at midday. Whether tech can maintain that leadership into the afternoon will determine how much of those early gains the broader market holds at the close.
