US pushes IEA allies for an extra 100 million barrels on top of emergency release

As seen on the 24/7 Wall St. homepage on October 15, 2026.

Another 100 million barrels on top of the 325 million already released would cap crude and squeeze producer margins, and it lands straight in the inflation math.

The US has told fellow IEA member nations it is unhappy with the existing emergency oil release and wants to supplement it with an additional 100 million barrels, according to market news account DeItaone on October 15, 2026.

A coordinated release of that scale would cap crude prices and compress producer margins in a market already absorbing an earlier drawdown.

Washington is willing to use strategic reserves as an active price tool, which raises the odds that further releases follow if prices hold up.

The proposed barrels would come on top of 325 million already released, a supply addition energy investors should track in the sessions ahead.
