About Southern Company

Southern Company (NYSE: SO) is an energy holding company serving about 9 million regulated utility customers, roughly 4.6 million electric and 4.4 million natural gas, across the Southeast and beyond.

Its business lines are:
- Traditional electric operating companies in three states: Alabama Power, Georgia Power and Mississippi Power. These generate, transmit and distribute electricity to residential, commercial and industrial retail customers and sell power wholesale.
- Southern Company Gas: natural gas distribution utilities in four states, including Nicor Gas in Illinois.
- Southern Power: a competitive wholesale generation company with a wind repowering program underway.
- Other operations: a distributed energy solutions provider with national capabilities, a fiber optics network, and telecommunications services.

The electric utilities own nuclear generation, including Plant Vogtle Units 3 and 4. They are seeing rising demand from large commercial and industrial customers, including data centers. Earnings are driven mainly by rate-regulated returns on capital investment, retail sales growth and weather.

The company has nearly 30,000 employees. Updated
