Shares in Asia were up sharply.

The Nikkei rose 1.9% to 17,090. Bridgestone was down .6% to 2380. Canon was up 1.5% to 6160. Fuji Film was up 3% to 4790. Hitachi was up 3% to 819. Honda was up 2.4% to 4320. NEC was up 1.7% to 602. NTT was up 1.8% to 605000. Docomo was up 2.4% to 211000. Sharp was up .9% to 2150. Softbank was up 3.9% to 2800. Sony was up 2.9% to 5990. Toshiba was up 5% to 750. Toyota was up 1.3% to 7840. Yahoo Japan was up .1% to 41700.

The Hang Seng rose 1.4% to 19,175. Cathay Pacific was up 1.5% to 19.5. China Mobile was up 1.7% to 68.15. China Netcom was up 2.6% to 17.26. China Unicom was up .9% to 9.41. HSBC was up .7% to 136.6. PCCW was up 1.1% to 4.68.

The KOSPI was up .9% to 1,424.

The Straits Times was up 1.6% to 3,109.

The Shanghai Composite was up 1.1% to 2,928.
