We are seeing several key movers in the after-hours session, some based on earnings and some based upon other events.  Those on the move are BMC Software Inc. (NYSE: BMC), Hansen Medical, Inc. (NASDAQ: HNSN), ION Geophysical Corporation (NYSE: IO), iShares Silver Trust (NYSE: SLV), JDS Uniphase Corporation (NASDAQ: JDSU), Kulicke & Soffa Industries Inc. (NASDAQ: KLIC), Mercadolibre, Inc. (NASDAQ: MELI), News Corporation (NASDAQ: NWSA), and Smith Micro Software Inc. (NASDAQ: SMSI).

We have added a news synopsis and the move on each and added color where applicable.

BMC Software Inc. (NYSE: BMC) beat earnings estimates and sees a strong 2012.  Its shares closed down 1.1% but the stock is up 5.25% at $51.65 on more than 50,000 after-hours shares.

Hansen Medical, Inc. (NASDAQ: HNSN) reported record growth in catheter sales and a record number of procedures.  This one closed up 0.6% at $3.06 and the stock is up almost 6% at $3.24 on only about 30,000 after-hours shares.

ION Geophysical Corporation (NYSE: IO) closed down 4.7% today ahead of earnings and shares are down again after the earnings report turned in a 2% revenue gain.  The company did note that Libya created a large sale going on indefinite hold.  The company’s shares are down some 11% at $9.50 in the after-hours session.

iShares Silver Trust (NYSE: SLV) had a rough day with silver taking the stock down 5.7% to $38.28 today.  In the after-hours we have seen over 800,000 shares and the stock is up 0.3% at $38.38.  This might not mean much, but the consideration is that this lost about $10 since Friday.

JDS Uniphase Corporation (NASDAQ: JDSU) is soaring after it beat expectations.  The stock closed down 1.3% but it is up 9.45% at $21.89 on more than 2 million after-hours shares.

Kulicke & Soffa Industries Inc. (NASDAQ: KLIC) may be a clean-up trade or may be a thought that not all companies in chip cap-ex will get acquired after the Applied-Varian merger.  Shares were down 4.2% at $10.20 on 145,000 after-hours shares.  Again, it is possible these were just clean-up trades from earlier.

Mercadolibre, Inc. (NASDAQ: MELI) shares closed down 1.1% at $85.77, but the company reported along with earnings that it was entering a “CFO transition” and that has shares lower by 5.7% to $80.88 on almost 100,000 shares in the after-hours.

News Corporation (NASDAQ: NWSA) turned in earnings that were both lower and lower than expected.  Shares closed down 1% at $17.34 today and the stock is down another 3.1% at $16.80 on more than 250,000 after-hours shares.

Smith Micro Software Inc. (NASDAQ: SMSI) shares closed down almost 3% ahead of earnings.  Those were in-line with expectations but those expectations had been cut.  Shares were down another 10% at $6.50 on more than 11,000 shares.
