After three different cars burst into flames days after a collision, General Motors Co. (NYSE: GM) has figured out a way to fix the problem with its hybrid gasoline-electric Chevy Volt. In testing by federal regulators, the car’s lithium-ion battery caught fire as late as three weeks following a  successful crash test.

Volt owners will be able to take their cars to a dealer for the fix beginning in February. There won’t be too long a line — GM sold just 7,671 units of the Volt in 2011.
