A federal judge in Chicago has narrowed the scope of a patent infringement case involving Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) and Motorola Mobility Holdings Inc. (NYSE: MMI). The dispute revolves around patents related to mobile technology.

Motorola, which is in the process of being acquired by Google Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOG), won another recent patent infringement case brought before the US International Trade Commission. In today’s decision, the judge agreed with Apple on two issues, with Motorola on another, and ruled that five remaining issues would go to trial in June.

The two companies must tell the judge by Monday which of the five issues they wish to bring to trial in June.
