German and French financial officials believe that new bank regulations which would force many financial firms to raise money are too strict in the current troubled economic climate
The FT reports that
A joint paper by Wolfgang Schäuble, German finance minister, and his French counterpart, François Baroin, will on Monday call for important elements of the Basel III rules to be watered down to mitigate any “negative effect” on growth.
UK officials have taken quite the opposite position and want to push to rebuild balance sheets as soon as possible.
