The Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) iPad is supposed to be the best selling tablet PC in the world by far. But, Google (NASDAQ: GOOG) Android based tablets are gaining share. In many nations, Android use has already passes Apple’s iPhone among smartphone customers.
Tablet sales surged in 2011 to 67 million from only 19 million in 2010 according to research firm Strategic Analytics.
The research report said
In summary, global tablet shipments surged +150% YoY to an all-time high of 27 million units in Q4 2011. Apple iOS captured 58% market share worldwide, while Android captured 39%, with Microsoft at 1%. Global tablet shipments hit 67 million units in 2011, surging from 19 million in 2010.
