In yet another move aimed to boost its position in the streaming video space, Amazon.com (NASDAQ: AMZN) has signed a deal with Viacom Inc. (NASDAQ: VIAB), adding the owner of MTV and Comedy Central to Amazon’s existing stable of content providers. These include CBS Corp. (NYSE: CBS), Time Warner Inc. (NYSE: TWX), News Corp. (NASDAQ: NWS), Sony Corp. (NYSE: SNE), Comcast Corp. (NASDAQ: CMCSA), and Walt Disney Co. (NYSE: DIS).

Like all its other agreements, Amazon’s deal with Viacom is another direct assault on Netflix Inc. (NASDAQ: NFLX), the staggering leader in the streaming video space. The Viacom deal brings Amazon’s number of streaming titles to around 15,000.

Amazon is believed to be preparing for a subscription service similar to the Netflix offering. Currently Amazon offers streaming content free to subscribers to its $79/year Amazon Prime service.
