McDonald's To Expand China Franchises--Reuters

McDonald’s has two types of stores–those owned by the company and those owned by franchisees. It has decided to boost the presence of the latter in China in the hope it will cause its store count to grow more quickly. It is in a race with a number of other US fast food outlets in the world’s largest nation by population. According to Reuters,

McDonald’s relies heavily on franchises in more mature markets such as the United States, but has almost exclusively opened self-operated stores in China since entering the market two decades ago. It has 36 franchised stores in the country, the company’s website showed.
