Pre-Market Stock Futures:

Futures are trading lower at the midweek point, after the risk-on crowd had a very solid day across Wall Street on Tuesday, with all the major indices posting big gains. A rebound in chip stocks, some very strong earnings reports, and despite once again higher oil prices, the bulls handily won the day. When the final bell rang, the Russell 2000 closed up 1.53% at 2,987, while the Nasdaq also finished the day strong, closing up 1.29% at 25,837. The S&P 500 closed the session up 0.89% at 7,509, snapping a three-day losing streak, while the venerable Dow Jones Industrial checked in with a 0.74% gain and was last seen at 52,224. It was noted yesterday that, among the S&P 500 companies that have reported earnings so far (about 10% of the index constituents), 88% have reported earnings beats, which is much higher than the historical rates of 76% over the last 10 years and 78% over the last 5 years. So, needless to say, we are off to a blazing start in the second quarter earnings season.

Treasury Bonds:

While those on equity trade desks were busy cheering on Tuesday, bond traders had a rough session as yields across the entire Treasury curve rose, amid rising oil prices that continue to add to worries over inflation and the potential for Federal Reserve rate hikes at some point this year. Bank of America made a strong case for higher rates in a research report we are posting today. When the debt dust settled, the 30-year-long bond finished the day at 5.13%, while the benchmark 10-year note was last seen at 4.63%.

Oil and Gas:

The reason the bond market got hit, as we mentioned, was yet another day of oil prices going higher as the U.S. continues to attack Iran on a nightly basis. With passage through the Strait of Hormuz becoming difficult again, and the Houthis rebels in Yemen threatening to disrupt traffic in the Red Sea if tankers dock at Saudi Arabian ports, the path of least resistance for the oil benchmarks was higher. Brent Crude finished the session at $91.34, up 2.38%, while West Texas Intermediate was last seen at $84.61, up 2.54%. Natural gas closed the session at $2.90, up 1.33%.

Gold:

Gold wasn’t tardy to the party as the bullion had a stellar day as well. Some traders cited technical buying as the precious metal broke through short-term downtrend levels, while others pointed to possible short covering. Anyway, when the closing bell rang, Gold closed higher by 1.87% at $4.081, while Silver finished Tuesday at $58.56, up 4.03%.

Crypto:

Crypto traded higher on Tuesday, with Bitcoin rising over 3% to briefly surpass $67,000 and Ethereum nearing $1,950. Major altcoins like XRP and Solana also posted strong gains, while crypto-linked stocks like Coinbase Global (NASDAQ: COIN | COIN Price Prediction) rocketed 11%. Traders cheered when Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced that the long-awaited Digital Asset Market Clarity Act is almost finalized in the Senate. At 8 AM EDT, Bitcoin was trading at $66,014, while Ethereum was trading at $1,926.
