Quick Read

  • BE dropped 40% in a month despite posting record $1.07 billion in Q2 revenue, while Wall Street analysts still target $286 per share.

  • Reddit sentiment collapsed from bullish 78 to bearish 18 in two weeks as WSB margin calls and a short-seller report triggered a 5.6% single-day drop.

  • Morningstar raised Bloom's fair value 15% after its 2.8 GW Oracle deal for AI data center power, with management guiding 2026 revenue to nearly double.

Shares of Bloom Energy (NYSE:BE) closed most recently at $163.75, down 24.9% over the past week and 40.5% in a month, even after the fuel cell maker posted a record Q2 with $1.07 billion in revenue and raised full-year guidance. Reddit noticed. Bloom Energy’s proprietary sentiment score has plunged from bullish readings near 78 in early July to a deeply bearish 18 by July 22. Wall Street analysts, meanwhile, still peg fair value at $286.20, implying 74.8% upside from here.

Bloom Energy’s Reddit Crowd Turned in Two Weeks

The subreddit migration tells the story. In early July, r/stocks carried the discussion with sentiment in the mid-70s. Then r/wallstreetbets took over with leveraged plays like a widely-shared margin-call post on 1,100 shares of Bloom. By July 20, WSB flipped bearish and stayed there, while r/investing hosted a bullish thread that peaked at 101 comments on July 17 before cooling. The tone now reads as fear on WSB and exhaustion elsewhere.

BE margin call — got wiped out on the short-seller drop from r/wallstreetbets

  • A short-seller report knocked Bloom Energy stock down 5.6% on July 8 and triggered a Rosen Law class-action inquiry.
  • Bloom Energy carries a beta of 3.7, so drawdowns bite retail accounts hard, exactly what the margin-call posts show.
  • Insiders have logged 27 recent transactions, with net direction selling.

Wall Street Sees a Different Picture

Analyst positioning has barely flinched. Morningstar lifted fair value 15% in April on the Oracle deal that locked in 2.8 GW of AI data center capacity. Management now guides for $3.9 billion to $4.2 billion in 2026 revenue, roughly doubling year over year. CEO K.R. Sridhar told investors “Bloom is now a standard for AI onsite power.” Yet the composite sentiment index still reads a bearish 34.42, weighed down by the Reddit sentiment collapse and insider selling.

Bloom Versus the Rest of the AI Power Trade

Peers riding the same theme, Vertiv (NYSE:VRT | VRT Price Prediction) and GE Vernova (NYSE:GEV), have delivered steadier price action than Bloom, whose forward P/E of 84 leaves no cushion if hyperscaler orders slip or the short-seller narrative gains traction. Keep an eye on the class-action filing and whether the Brookfield JV converts backlog into new hyperscaler contracts. Those catalysts will decide whether Reddit’s fear or the $286 analyst target proves right.
