Micron Technology (NASDAQ:MU | MU Price Prediction) and Intel (NASDAQ:INTC) both closed blockbuster quarters, yet the businesses behind those headlines differ sharply. Micron is monetizing the AI memory shortage in real time. Intel is rebuilding its foundry and product engine while leaning on a friendlier PC cycle. Comparing them now shows what pure AI leverage looks like next to a multi-year turnaround.
HBM Prints Money for Micron. Intel Still Pays for Its Rebuild.
Micron’s fiscal Q3 was a memory cycle at full throttle. Revenue hit $41.456 billion, up 345.72% year over year, with GAAP gross margin reaching 84.6%. Cloud Memory alone brought in $13.769 billion, powered by HBM4 shipments on 1-beta DRAM. CEO Sanjay Mehrotra framed it plainly: “Micron’s record fiscal Q3 financial results and even stronger outlook for Q4 reflect the strategic value of memory in the AI era.”
Intel’s Q2 was its best in over fifteen years, yet it ended with an $11.033 billion GAAP net loss. Revenue of $16.128 billion grew 25.42%, Data Center and AI jumped 59% to $6.262 billion, and Panther Lake began high-volume manufacturing on ASML High NA EUV. Intel Foundry posted a $2.1 billion quarterly loss. CEO Lip-Bu Tan called it “our strongest revenue growth in more than fifteen years”, which is true and still incomplete.
| Business Driver | Micron | Intel |
| Main Growth Engine | HBM and Cloud Memory | Data Center CPUs, foundry ramp |
| GAAP Gross Margin | 84.6% | 40.4% |
| Segment Drag | Heavy capex | Foundry losses, CHIPS escrow charge |
Pricing Power Now vs. Process Execution Later
Micron is locking customers into multi-year Strategic Customer Agreements, sampling 256GB DDR5 RDIMMs, and shipping 245TB QLC SSDs while HBM4E development targets calendar 2027. Guidance calls for $50.0 billion in Q4 revenue and roughly 86% gross margin. That is a company riding the cycle, not hoping for one.
Intel’s bet is longer-dated. Intel 18A-P entered risk production, Xeon 6+ launched as the first server on Intel 18A, and a €5 billion Xeon capacity investment is in motion alongside collaborations with Foxconn, Siemens, and Google Cloud. Q3 guidance of $15.8 billion to $16.8 billion implies stability, not acceleration.
The Next Test Is Whether Memory Pricing Holds
Keep an eye on HBM4 pricing discipline and how quickly Micron’s Strategic Customer Agreements convert into visible revenue smoothing. Watch Intel Foundry’s external revenue mix and whether Panther Lake yields translate into real client margin. Options traders on MU hit 78 to 88 conviction scores, while INTC collapsed to 12 to 32 post-earnings.
Why Micron Looks Better Positioned
For direct exposure to AI bottleneck pricing, Micron is the cleaner expression. Margins, guidance, and customer contracts all point the same direction, and its YTD gain of 207.67% reflects that. The 2,216-upvote dotcom comparison making the rounds warrants caution, and the stock has given back 16.29% since the June filing. Intel’s 175.47% YTD run fits a turnaround investor who can stomach foundry losses and CHIPS-related noise. Micron looks decisively better positioned until memory pricing cracks or Intel Foundry earns its keep.
