Applied Digital Spikes 7% as Another 75 MW Comes Online at Polaris Forge 1; IREN Advances 6%

Applied Digital just hit a capacity milestone at its North Dakota campus, and the buying is spilling into a peer that released no news at all. The difference between those two rallies matters more than the gains themselves.

A capacity milestone at Applied Digital (NASDAQ:APLD) is lifting the artificial intelligence (AI) data center group, and the buying reaches beyond the company that made the announcement. Applied Digital shares are surging 7% to $25.89 this morning. Meanwhile, IREN (NASDAQ:IREN) stock is climbing 6% to $43.03 as buyers move into the rest of the group.

To test whether a general rally explains the move, two funds offer a quick comparison. The Global X Data Center & Digital Infrastructure ETF (NASDAQ:DTCR) is up 1.51% to $27.48. The SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (NYSEARCA:SPY) is also gaining 0.9% to $770.58.

Shares of Applied Digital are outpacing both funds, so a broad bid for equities doesn’t account for the scale of its gain, and IREN stock rising alongside Applied Digital shares points to investors buying the data center group together, with the Polaris Forge 1 milestone acting as the spark. That combination frames the rally as a group trade, with Applied Digital at the front.

Another Polaris Forge 1 Phase Reaches Ready for Service

Ready for Service status now applies to the latest phase of a building at Applied Digital’s Polaris Forge 1 campus in Ellendale, North Dakota. Applied Digital stated that the delivery brings the campus’s fully operational capacity to 250 megawatts (MW). The campus is fully leased, and Applied Digital is contracted to deliver more capacity there at completion.

In the announcement, Applied Digital Chairman and CEO Wes Cummins stated, “Securing power is only the starting point. The real work is designing, building, commissioning, and operating the infrastructure that transforms those megawatts into usable capacity for customers.” That emphasis fits Applied Digital’s situation, since the campus was already fully leased before this capacity came online. Turning secured power into working capacity on schedule is the part of the model that lease signings alone can’t prove.

IREN Rises Without News of Its Own

The gain in IREN stock stands out because the company has offered no announcement of its own to explain the move. That pattern suggests traders are treating Applied Digital’s progress as evidence for operators like IREN that convert secured power into leased AI capacity. Somebody must power, cool, and connect all that expansion. We pulled together seven of those suppliers in a free report on the AI infrastructure trade.

Applied Digital stock has a concrete catalyst behind its gain, with 250 MW now fully operational at the company’s Polaris Forge 1 campus. IREN shares, by contrast, are moving on mood alone, which leaves that advance more exposed if enthusiasm for the group cools, while behind the delivery sits Applied Digital’s fully leased campus, which ties the milestone to contracted customers.

Funding the Buildout Is the Open Question

Delivery at this phase is settled, and the cost side of Applied Digital’s story now comes into focus. Building and commissioning capacity at this scale takes heavy capital, and the unresolved issue is whether Applied Digital can keep funding that pace without stressing its balance sheet. Shareholders may want to keep an eye on whether the company’s next phases arrive on schedule and how Applied Digital pays for them.

The next test for IREN stock is whether shares can hold their gain once the lift from Applied Digital’s milestone fades. Traders can watch for new announcements from IREN or its peers that would give the group a catalyst of its own. Absent company news, IREN shares could stay tied to whatever direction the group takes.
