Elon Musk Is Renaming SpaceX’s AI Arm for the Third Time. Shareholders Should Ask Why
SpaceX's AI division has worn three names since February, and Elon Musk just floated a fourth with a Sunday X post. Before investors treat the rebrand as a bullish signal, the financials raise a harder question.

In a string of posts on X early Sunday, Elon Musk wrote “No more AI,” then “SI,” then “It’s better.” Elon Musk then declared “SpaceX is a super intelligence company.” When a user asked whether SpaceXAI would become SpaceXSI, Elon Musk replied, “Yes, we will make that change,” as reported by Teslarati.
The business getting a new label is the AI division of SpaceX (NASDAQ:SPCX | SPCX Price Prediction), which brought in $2.56 billion of revenue in Q2 2026, up 247% year over year. SpaceXSI would be its third name since February and its second rebrand in under three months.
Nothing is official yet. Musk gave no timeline. He did not say whether SpaceXSI would be a legal name change or a branding update, whether the @SpaceXAI username would change, or how the shift applies to Grok. The company had not issued a formal announcement as of Sunday morning.
A Rename Moves Zero Dollars of Cash Flow
For investors tempted to read a rebrand as business news, a label change leaves revenue, margins and capital spending exactly where they were. In Q2, AI Solutions & Infrastructure generated $2.19 billion, while Advertising brought in $367 million and declined year over year. Total CapEx hit $18.37 billion, with $15.83 billion directed to AI compute infrastructure, and the company posted a net loss of $541 million.
The stock currently trades at $173.94, up 19.57% over the past week, for a current market cap of roughly $1.34 trillion.
Three Names Since February, Each With a Date
- February 2: SpaceX acquired xAI in a deal that valued the combined company at $1.25 trillion, according to Teslarati (February 2). That deal valuation is a separate figure from today’s market cap.
- May: Musk said xAI would be dissolved as a separate company.
- July 6: Teslarati reports the division adopted the SpaceXAI name and a new logo placing the xAI letters inside the SpaceX identity on July 6.
- October 4: Musk suggests SpaceXSI.
The trigger came from Washington. Teslarati reports that on September 29, President Trump signed an executive order directing federal agencies to replace “artificial intelligence” and “AI” with “Super Intelligence” and “SI” in government communications. Speaking to reporters that day, Musk said, “I think it is worth highlighting the positive benefits of A.I. … S.I., pardon me.”
Peers have largely kept the old vocabulary. The leading labs have not relabeled their models as SI, and California ordered state agencies to keep using “artificial intelligence.” OpenAI’s CEO has continued to say “AI” in public, while the CEO of NVIDIA (NASDAQ:NVDA) has gone partway, calling data centers “super intelligence factories.”
What Actually Sits Under the Label
The division houses Grok, the X platform, the Colossus training clusters in Memphis and Cursor, the coding tool SpaceX acquired in August in a $60 billion deal. Compute capacity has reached 1.4 GW, backed by $14.1 billion in Cloud Services Agreements.
It also runs an orbital compute effort that Musk said on the first earnings call would be exclusive to Nvidia. NVIDIA disclosed in its Q2 FY2027 report that SpaceXAI will deploy NVIDIA Vera CPUs for agentic AI applications. That makes SpaceX a customer inside a Data Center business that produced $89.02 billion in quarterly revenue, up 117%. Whatever the division is called, its chip orders flow to the same supplier (we covered seven of the power, cooling and networking suppliers riding this same expansion in a free AI infrastructure report).
What Shareholders Should Track Next
The rename itself is a governance signal. In a newly public company, the branding of a $2.56 billion division has now changed with its CEO’s posts and federal language, and investors deserve formal disclosure when that happens.
If SpaceX formalizes SpaceXSI through an 8-K or its investor relations site before the Q3 report, the rebrand becomes a documented corporate action. Either way, the number that matters in Q3 is AI Solutions & Infrastructure revenue measured against the $15.83 billion quarterly compute bill. If that ratio fails to improve, no new name will help.
