Three Engines That Could Grow Your Stake
A strong iPhone cycle. Fiscal third-quarter revenue rose 16.4% to $109.42 billion. EPS came in at $2.02, ahead of the $1.8914 estimate. iPhone revenue grew 22% on demand for the iPhone 17 family. Tim Cook, Apple’s chief executive at the time of the call, called it “the most powerful and most popular iPhone lineup we’ve ever had.”
Rising earnings forecasts. Consensus EPS climbs from $8.8202 for fiscal 2026 to $9.5758 for fiscal 2027, based on 40 analysts. Services, Apple’s higher-margin business, brought in a record $30.7 billion, up 12%.
AI features and cash returns. Management described the redesigned Siri AI as “a very big idea”. It is also pitching the Mac as a machine for running AI locally. Meanwhile, the board approved an additional $100B buyback and raised the dividend 4%. Apple bought back $25.8 billion of stock last quarter.
Risks That Could Push Your $1,000 Toward the Bear Case
- Valuation: The stock trades at about 39x trailing earnings. That leaves little margin if growth slows.
- Supply and memory costs: Apple expected supply constraints to increase significantly in the September quarter. Cook described memory pricing as “a 100-year flood.”
- iPhone 18 demand: Shares fell Friday after a report that Apple is cutting iPhone 18 Pro production and component orders (Barron’s, Forbes).
- One-time boosts: Tariff refunds added about $0.11 to quarterly EPS. That benefit will not repeat.
- Regulation: A U.S. court ruling on App Store link-out transactions is headed to the Supreme Court. Apple also still needs work with the European Commission before Siri AI can launch in the EU (earnings call).
