If you put $1,000 a month into Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN | AMZN Price Prediction) starting with today’s price of $250, you would contribute $60,000 over five years.

Amazon deserves a forward look because its cloud business is speeding up again. AWS revenue grew 37% YoY last quarter, its fastest in 18 quarters, as demand for AI infrastructure rose.

What $1,000 a Month Could Grow to by 2031

Under the base case, $1,000 a month could be worth about $91,715.41 by 2031, a total return of 52.9% on the $60,000 you put in. It amounts to a gain of about $31,715.

The estimate assumes a five-year base-case target of $547.86 per share by October 17, 2031. For a share bought today, that would mean making 119.15%, or 16.99% a year.

The monthly plan returns less than a single share bought today because each later deposit has less time to grow. Your final contributions are invested for only a month or two. The dollar figures assume you invest at the start of each month and that the stock grows steadily at each scenario’s annualized rate.

Three Growth Engines Behind the Target

AWS Is Accelerating on AI Demand

AWS now runs at a $169 billion annualized revenue rate, and its backlog has reached $496 billion. Amazon’s AI business and its chip business each exceeded a $25B annualized run rate with triple-digit growth (the power, cooling, and networking suppliers feeding that expansion are the subject of a free report on seven AI infrastructure names that aren’t chipmakers).

CEO Andy Jassy said on the earnings call that AWS could “very possibly be a trillion dollar annual revenue business for us in time.”

Advertising Keeps Compounding

Ad revenue rose 26% year-over-year to $19.8 billion. Ad slots for Thursday Night Football, the NBA and NASCAR “all sold out.” Advertising has high margins, so this growth adds to profits without needing the heavy spending that AWS requires.

Earnings Estimates Are Moving Higher

The average analyst estimate for 2026 EPS is $12.8977, up from $8.6938 90 days ago. Over the past 30 days, analysts made 4 up revisions and 0 down ones.

A one-time gain ballooned that 2026 number. Q2 GAAP EPS of $5.75 included a $53.4B pre-tax gain tied to Amazon’s Anthropic investment. That helps explain why the 2027 estimate is lower, at $10.5435.

Risks That Could Shrink Your Ending Balance

Spending is the biggest risk. Amazon plans about $200B of capital spending in 2026, and trailing 12-month free cash flow turned negative at -$7.6B. Jassy said the company will “encounter free cash flow headwinds until these data centers come online to be monetized.” If AI demand cools before that capacity pays off, the upside thesis falls apart quickly.

Management also pointed to tariffs, currency swings, memory chip supply and recession risk. Valuation matters as well: the stock trades at a P/E of 35 with a beta of 1.456, so it tends to swing more than the market.

Shares fell 4.74% in the past week alone. Over the last five years they making 46.67%, well below the projected pace. Even the bear case assumes a gain, and a real downturn could leave your plan below the $60,000 you put in.

Monthly investing does help with swings like these. When the price falls, each $1,000 buys more shares.

Where Your $60,000 Could Land

In all three scenarios, $1,000 a month in Amazon ends somewhere between $72,664.57 and $101,398.77 by 2031, with the base case at $91,715.41.
