Reddit Sinks 5% as Slower Growth Guidance Looms Over Earnings; Snap Drops 3%, Meta Holds Steady
Reddit stock is sliding hard into its earnings report while Meta barely flinches, and the gap between them tells a story about which ad model investors trust right now.
Reddit‘s (NYSE:RDDT | RDDT Price Prediction) guidance for slower third-quarter 2026 revenue growth looms over its upcoming earnings report, and Reddit stock is taking the biggest selling among social media names. At $136.52, Reddit stock is down 5% in morning trading. The slide signals fading confidence in how long its streak of rapid revenue gains can last.
Meanwhile, Snap (NYSE:SNAP) stock is down 3% to $6.16, a shallower drop than Reddit’s. Meta Platforms (NASDAQ:META) stock is up 0.2% to $643.55, holding steady while its two smaller rivals slip. The Global X Social Media ETF (NASDAQ:SOCL) is down 0.8% to $42.44, while the SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (NYSEARCA:SPY) is up 0.9% to $767.08, so Reddit’s slide runs against both its sector fund and the broader market.
When Reddit last reported, management guided third-quarter revenue to $860 million to $870 million, following Q2 2026 sales of $804.9 million that rose 61.1% year over year, according to its SEC filings. It also said it would stop separately reporting logged-in and logged-out daily active users, after weak U.S. logged-in user growth. Advertising is the swing factor this week, after segment revenue of $762 million rose 64% last quarter.
Meta Platforms stock is barely moving, keeping the group’s largest company clear of the selling. The Global X Social Media ETF’s latest disclosed holdings gave Reddit and Meta Platforms each a large slice of the fund, while Snap carried a smaller weight.
Three Ad Models Carry Different Risks
Reddit earns most of its revenue from advertising and also licenses its data to AI developers, tying it to rising demand for authentic human perspectives as AI-generated content spreads. Uneven search referral traffic last quarter added risk.
Meta Platforms sells advertising across Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and WhatsApp, a reach that protects it, though biggest AI spending is a risk to margins. Snap’s camera-centered messaging app is a narrower base more exposed to swings in marketing budgets, though its subscription products give it a growing second revenue stream. Ad sales at Reddit are growing quickly from a far smaller base.
For Reddit, the bullish view rests on a long streak of quarterly results that topped Wall Street estimates. The bearish view centers on slowing, since the guided third-quarter range points to growth below the pace of recent periods. Past beats haven’t guaranteed gains, as Reddit stock fell sharply after its last report despite strong results.
What Reddit’s Report Has to Prove
Reddit reports third-quarter results later this week, with its conference call scheduled for October 29 at 4:30 p.m. ET. Growth in Reddit’s advertising is the central test, and the report has to show it holding up despite the slower guidance.
Look for commentary on U.S. user trends. A revenue result near the top of the guided range, paired with firm ad pricing, could ease the worries weighing on Reddit stock, and those reviewing their positions should size their holdings carefully given the slower guidance.
