Does XRP Have a Future? ChatGPT Responds to Peter Brandt’s “Fool Coin” Claim

Peter Brandt calls XRP a fool coin where network growth never reaches token holders, but ChatGPT pushed back with a fair value estimate and two wildly different 2027 scenarios that put the debate in sharper focus.

The question on many minds is: does XRP have a future? Veteran trader Peter Brandt has labeled XRP (CRYPTO:XRP) a “fool coin,” arguing that its role in payments does not increase its value, especially compared with Bitcoin (CRYPTO:BTC). When 24/7 Wall St. asked ChatGPT the same question, the response offered a more balanced view.

ChatGPT disagrees with Brandt’s assertion that payment use lacks investment value. However, it acknowledges that a busy network doesn’t automatically drive up a token’s price. As of October 3, 2026, XRP is trading around $1.48, about 50% lower than it was a year ago. This raises an important question for current holders: can the token actually reflect the value created by its network?

Banks Can Use XRP Without Holding It for Long

ChatGPT’s argument starts with how payments are processed. When a bank utilizes XRP as a bridge asset to transfer dollars internationally, it buys XRP, moves it quickly, and then the recipient converts it into local currency. This means that while billions of dollars can pass through the network, very little XRP stays in anyone’s hands.

Additionally, Ripple can generate income through payment software and its RLUSD stablecoin—tied to the dollar—without this income necessarily impacting XRP’s price. Thus, ChatGPT points out that while bank adoption is a crucial first step, XRP’s value hinges on its ability to gain economic significance.

ChatGPT Puts XRP’s Fair Value at $1.35, About 9% Below Its Price

According to ChatGPT, only 25% of XRP’s market value currently stems from visible ledger activities, with the remaining 75% supporting future adoption. This division is based on judgment rather than hard numbers.

ChatGPT established XRP’s fair value at $1.35. This rate reflects 40% of current ledger use, 35% based on the likelihood of adoption by major institutions, and 25% for future network value.

At this price, XRP would have a market value of approximately $85 billion across 63.1 billion tokens, compared to roughly $94 billion today. With XRP’s maximum supply being 100 billion, the same fair value suggests a higher market capitalization as more tokens become available.

Moreover, ChatGPT estimates that funds hold about 1.18 billion XRP, valued at approximately $1.7 billion, with stablecoins on the ledger amounting to between $2.4 billion and $2.5 billion. The conclusion is that current buyers are investing in a healthy yet reasonable expectation of future adoption.

Swift’s 17-Bank Ledger Could Grow Without XRP

ChatGPT also highlighted the significance of Swift’s blockchain ledger pilot, which involves 17 banks preparing to utilize it for tokenized deposits. These are everyday bank deposits converted into digital tokens, suggesting blockchain payments could grow significantly while XRP might see minimal benefit.

ChatGPT proposed two possible value scenarios for XRP by the end of 2027, clarifying that these are not predictions:

ChatGPT’s end-2027 scenario XRP value Implied market value Change from $1.48
Swift’s ledger dominates cross-border payments $1.80 About $114 billion +22%
Ripple’s networks take the lead $4.25 About $268 billion +187%

ChatGPT views the Ripple scenario as ambitious but possible, suggesting a 65% chance that XRP will still rank among the top 10 cryptocurrencies by early 2030.

XRP’s Price Record Still Backs Brandt’s View

Looking at XRP’s price history, Brandt’s view has some support. The token peaked at approximately $3.65 in July 2025 and is now trading about 60% lower, fluctuating between $1.25 and $1.66 in September. This indicates that XRP’s supporters still need to prove its value.

ChatGPT is also a language model without an established market track record, and its supply and value estimates are speculative. Presenting a fair value of $1.35 down to the cent does not ensure accuracy.

So, Does XRP Have a Future?

In summary, XRP has the potential to be a widely held, liquid asset. However, its effectiveness as a payment method has yet to prove that it positively impacts the token’s price. While headlines about bank adoption highlight the network’s growth, they don’t necessarily reflect XRP’s price, which is the gap Brandt pointed out.

The best measure of XRP’s future value may be found in fund holdings, currently estimated at around 1.18 billion XRP. If this number grows through 2027 and XRP climbs back above its January 2026 closing price of $1.65 (an increase of about 11%), it will suggest that the token is effectively capturing value. Conversely, if bank ledgers expand while fund holdings stagnate, it would validate Brandt’s distinction.
