XRP’s ETFs Trail Solana’s by $160 Million: Can XRP Close the Gap?

Solana ETFs hold a commanding lead over XRP ETFs in net assets, but a week of relentless outflows and a sharper price drop is handing XRP a window it has never had before.

Funds holding Solana (CRYPTO: SOL) had about $1.73 billion in net assets as of October 9, 2026, while those holding XRP (CRYPTO: XRP) totaled about $1.57 billion, according to SoSoValue. This leaves a $160 million gap in the competition between XRP ETFs and Solana ETFs.

Over the past week, money flows into these funds moved in opposite directions. Solana funds posted five consecutive days of net outflows, losing about $24.8 million, while XRP funds attracted about $11.3 million, with no outflows. This situation raises the question: have investors closed the gap, and could XRP’s funds potentially surpass Solana’s?

Solana’s Price Drop Narrowed the Gap More Than Fund Flows Did

Net flow refers to the difference between the money that comes into a fund and the money that leaves it on a given day. Here’s a breakdown of the session-by-session performance for both funds:

Date Solana Funds XRP Funds
October 5 $9.2 million out Zero flow
October 6 $3.7 million out $3.1 million in
October 7 $4.8 million out Zero flow
October 8 $3.3 million out $8.2 million in
October 9 $3.8 million out Zero flow
Week Total $24.8 million out $11.3 million in

Solana’s funds last saw a positive session on October 2. By contrast, XRP’s funds were the only ones among five crypto fund complexes to avoid negative sessions that week. While XRP has a clean record, price changes played a bigger role in narrowing the gap than inflows did.

Net assets are the market value of the coins funds hold, so the total can rise or fall with each coin’s price. When Solana’s price goes down, the total value of the coins in those funds decreases, even if no one withdraws money.

Moreover, Solana’s price dropped 8.1% last week, compared with XRP’s 5.4% decline. Because Solana started with larger funds and lost more value in its price drop, this price movement widened the gap more than inflows did.

Can XRP ETFs Catch Solana ETFs on Inflows Alone?

At the current pace, it may take a while for XRP’s funds to catch up. The $11.3 million that came into XRP funds is a small fraction of the $160 million gap, so new inflows at this rate will only gradually close the distance.

The gap can close more quickly if XRP’s price outperforms Solana. When XRP’s price rises, it increases the value of every coin in the XRP funds, while a falling Solana price reduces the total value of its larger fund. For investors focused solely on fund flows, this reliance on price changes can be uncomfortable because they can’t control how the two coins trade.

Price fluctuations can happen rapidly. Over the last 30 days, Solana rose 8.7%, while XRP rose 2.1%. Thus, the month leading up to this week favored Solana. While one week of XRP showing better price stability has reversed some of that trend, remember we’re only looking at a single week.

Flow patterns can also change with timing. XRP inflows came in just two sessions, so a single large session—like the $8.2 million on October 8—can greatly influence the weekly total. Because a week is a relatively short period and flow data doesn’t specify who bought, one large buyer can look like many smaller ones.

Can XRP ETFs Overtake Solana ETFs?

Not based solely on inflows—at least not at the current rate. A crossover will likely depend more on XRP outperforming Solana in price. While XRP’s consistent inflows suggest genuine interest, the gap is driven more by how the two coins trade against each other. Importantly, Solana’s significant outflows also warrant close attention; five straight days of withdrawals during a week of falling prices affected the larger fund in multiple ways.

This situation could change. If Solana’s funds continue to see outflows for another week while XRP’s price performance surpasses Solana’s, the gap could close due to both price and flows. Conversely, if Solana regains its pricing advantage from the past 30 days, the gap may widen even if XRP continues to bring in funds.
