ChatGPT predicts that XRP (CRYPTO: XRP) could be valued at approximately $2.40 by the end of 2028, with a 12% likelihood of reaching $5. This projection is based on an analysis starting from a price of $1.32, slightly above XRP’s actual price of $1.31 as of October 19, 2026.

XRP’s recent performance has not been strong. It has declined 7.1% over the past week and 13.5% over the past two weeks, putting it 64% below its all-time high of $3.65 in July 2025. In the last month, XRP peaked at around $1.57 on September 22 but fell to about $1.29 by October 17.

Investor interest has also waned. U.S. spot XRP ETFs, which let stock-market investors buy XRP, reported $1.47 billion in net assets on October 16, down from $1.80 billion invested, suggesting many investors are currently facing losses. The funds saw their first outflow in 13 weeks during the week of October 12. So, how realistic is the expectation for XRP to reach $5 by 2028?

ChatGPT’s prediction for the end of 2027 places XRP between $0.75 and $2.75, with $1.65 as the most likely price, a 25% increase from its starting point. By the end of 2028, this range expands to $0.90 to $4.50, with a most likely price of $2.40—an 81.8% increase.

If XRP reaches $2.40, holding 1,000 XRP could be valued at $2,400, while 10,000 XRP could be worth $24,000, still significantly below its peak from July 2025.

ChatGPT also suggests there is a 30% chance that XRP could surpass its previous record by the end of 2028, requiring a 176.5% increase. This probability increases to 45% if ETF inflows pick up and XRP regains the $2 mark on strong trading volume. However, it drops to 15% in a long-lasting bear market for Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC), where prices continue to decline.

On the downside, the model indicates a 40% chance of XRP falling below $1 before the end of 2027, a decline of around 24%, with $1.15 being a critical warning level.

What Would XRP at $5 Mean for Its Market Cap?

A cryptocurrency’s market cap is its price multiplied by its circulating supply, the number of tokens currently available for trading. As of October 19, XRP’s market cap was approximately $82.8 billion. According to ChatGPT, if XRP reaches $5, its market cap would be between $300 billion and $325 billion, a 278.8% increase.

With a circulating supply of 63.13 billion tokens, a $5 price per XRP would yield a market value of $315.6 billion, fitting within ChatGPT’s projections.

However, increasing supply can make it harder for XRP to maintain its price. Ripple, the company behind XRP, regularly releases tokens from an escrow account it controls, so the amount of XRP available for trading naturally grows over time. Thus, for XRP to reach any fixed price, including its previous high of $3.65, it would need a larger market cap as supply expands.

Spot XRP ETF Inflows Must Rebound

ChatGPT emphasizes that strong demand, especially from institutional investors, is crucial for XRP’s future price. Other factors matter only if they support that demand. The best indicator of institutional interest is net inflows into spot ETFs. As of October 16, cumulative net inflows totaled $1.80 billion, but the session reported a $2.5 million outflow.

The last significant demand was seen in September, with inflows reaching $20 million on September 22 and $22.6 million on September 25. During that time, XRP achieved its one-month high. When inflows decreased in October, the price fell back to $1.31.

XRP Ledger Upgrades and RLUSD Must Drive Demand for XRP

The XRP Ledger’s lending feature has not yet been activated. Any changes to the ledger, known as amendments, only take effect after they receive enough votes from independent validators, the servers that confirm transactions. Current data shows the LendingProtocol amendment has secured only 17 of the 25 needed votes, while SingleAssetVault, a related feature for pooled deposits, has 19. Neither has been implemented yet.

Similarly, Ripple’s U.S. dollar stablecoin, RLUSD, faces the same test. As ChatGPT points out, banks using RLUSD don’t need to hold XRP, so stablecoin growth would only drive XRP’s price higher if XRP is pulled into the transaction.

XRP Price Prediction: Can XRP Reach $5 by 2028?

The outlook for XRP reaching $5 by the end of 2028 is low, with ChatGPT estimating a 12% chance. The more likely scenario points to a recovery toward $2.40, and current metrics on ETFs and ledger developments support this projection more than a spike to new highs. For XRP to aim for $5, several factors must align, starting with it maintaining a price above $1.15 and reestablishing consistent ETF inflows.

Next, XRP would need to reclaim the $2 mark with strong volume, which would raise ChatGPT’s probability of a new record to 45%. Only by surpassing the $3.65 record can the $5 target be realistically considered. Conversely, a drop below $1.15 could bring the 40% scenario of falling below $1 into closer view. However, if ETF inflows resume while XRP stays above $1.15, the $2.40 2028 forecast seems attainable.
