Could XRP Hit $5 Before Bitcoin Reaches $200,000? ChatGPT Weighs In

XRP needs a 300% gain while Bitcoin needs less than half that, yet ChatGPT gives Bitcoin the edge on timing. The math behind which milestone gets hit first reveals a surprising tension between percentage gains, market caps, and institutional money.

Two significant numbers often come up in the cryptocurrency world: $5 for XRP (CRYPTO: XRP) and $200,000 for Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC). ChatGPT provides a timeline and likelihood for each, suggesting that Bitcoin is likely to reach $200,000 first, around June 2028, with XRP following closely at $5 by September 2028. The question remains: Will XRP hit $5 before Bitcoin reaches $200,000? And does Bitcoin’s head start matter?

XRP is trading at $1.25 after experiencing a 15.9% drop over the past month. It is still 65.8% below its all-time high of $3.65 reached on July 17, 2025. To hit $5, XRP needs to gain 300%.

On the other hand, Bitcoin is trading at $77,324, down 29.7% from a year ago and 38.7% below its all-time high of $126,080, set on October 6, 2025. This means Bitcoin requires a 158.7% increase to reach $200,000.

How Much Money Would XRP and Bitcoin Need to Hit Their Targets?

Looking only at a coin’s price doesn’t fully capture how much it needs to climb. XRP currently has 63.4 billion coins in circulation. If it reaches $5, its market cap would rise to approximately $317 billion, up from the $79.1 billion it holds now.

Each year, the situation gets tougher for XRP due to supply dilution. With its total supply nearing the 100 billion maximum, reaching $5 could require more money than in previous cycles, as Ripple continues to release coins from its escrow account on a set schedule. If XRP reached $5, the total value of all 100 billion coins would be $500 billion.

In comparison, Bitcoin’s supply is more stable. It currently has about 20.1 million coins, with a hard cap of 21 million. If Bitcoin reaches $200,000, its market cap would be around $4 trillion, up from its current value of $1.55 trillion. While this is a bigger dollar increase, it is a smaller percentage gain than what XRP needs, which is why ChatGPT’s analysis leans toward Bitcoin.

The potential rewards are significant. Using ChatGPT’s estimates, a $1,000 investment can buy 800 XRP, which would be worth $4,000 if XRP reaches $5 in September 2028. Conversely, the same amount can buy about 0.0128 BTC, which would be worth around $2,567 if Bitcoin hits $200,000 in June 2028, before fees and taxes. This indicates that while XRP has the potential for a larger reward, its chances of reaching that target are lower.

XRP’s ETFs and Trust Bank Win Have Yet to Lift Its Price

XRP has two key factors that could help boost its price, but so far, they haven’t shown the desired effect. Spot XRP ETFs, which allow investors to buy XRP through brokerage accounts, are central to the optimism around the $5 prediction. As of October 30, these ETFs held $1.42 billion, with total net inflows of about $1.81 billion.

However, daily buying activity has been weak. Ten sessions from October 5 to 30 recorded no net flow, and the highest daily inflow was only about $8.4 million on October 29. In the latest session, there was actually an outflow of around $496,000.

Additionally, Ripple received final approval for Ripple National Trust Bank from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency on October 26, following a previous conditional approval. This bank will manage reserves for RLUSD, Ripple’s dollar-pegged stablecoin, under federal oversight.

Yet, despite this regulatory win, the market has remained largely unimpressed. XRP was priced at $1.31 on the day of the approval and has dropped 4.6% since then. ChatGPT still believes XRP could surpass Bitcoin if ETF demand increases significantly.

Bitcoin Has Far More Institutional Money Behind It

On the other hand, Bitcoin has much stronger backing from institutional investors. As of October 30, spot Bitcoin ETFs held $98.1 billion, with cumulative net inflows of about $57 billion. Prominent institutional investor Strategy Inc. (NASDAQ: MSTR | MSTR Price Prediction) holds 849,327 BTC, valued at around $65.7 billion, which provides additional support for Bitcoin.

However, these investment flows can be unpredictable. For example, Bitcoin ETFs saw an inflow of about $528 million on October 21, then outflows of $635 million the following day and around $643 million again on October 30. ChatGPT suggests a significant surge in inflows could speed up Bitcoin’s timeline to reach $200,000.

Could XRP Hit $5 Before Bitcoin Reaches $200,000?

As it stands, Bitcoin seems more likely to reach $200,000 before XRP hits $5, aligning with ChatGPT’s predictions. Both scenarios, however, appear unlikely before mid-2028. ChatGPT estimates a 60% chance for Bitcoin to hit $200,000 by the end of 2028, while XRP has a 40% chance of reaching $5. These estimates are subjective.

For Bitcoin to achieve its target, it first needs to surpass its all-time high of $126,080, which is 63.1% above its current price. ChatGPT’s timeline for June 2028 assumes a bull market will begin before the end of 2027.

XRP has a larger leap to make, needing to exceed its high of $3.65, which is 192% above its current value. Its chances will improve if XRP ETFs see steady daily inflows in the tens of millions and if the coin can close above its October 4 high of $1.52, which is 21.6% above its current price.

However, if Bitcoin falls below its June 30 low of $58,566, which is 24.3% below its current price, it could delay both targets beyond 2028.
