"Dark Knight Rises" Pulls $160.9 Million

Based on data released by the Warner Bros division of Time Warner (NYSE: TWX), the third installment of the Batman series, “The Dark Knight Rises” brought in $160.9 million over its first weekend. This was slightly below expectations. The movie cost $250 million to make.

The Christopher Nolan directed movie’s box office income may have been hurt by a massacre at a midnight showing of the film on Friday in Aurora Colorado. Twelve people were killed.

Because “The Dark Knight Rises” is likely to do well overseas, and later on PPV and DVD, it still likely that the title will bring in several hundreds of millions of dollars and more than cover its cost of production
