The International Air Transport Association put the cost to the industry of the April incident at $1.7 billion. That figure is likely to go higher. New ash plums from Eyjafjallajokull will close airports in Scotland and parts of the UK today. That process now appears likely to happen off-and-on across Europe, possibly for some time.
