August is when serious investors stop trading and start planning. With four full years remaining until 2030, the question worth asking today is which platform businesses have the earnings power, capital base, and AI monetization runway to compound at scale into the back half of the decade. Three names stand out this month, and all three have already put current-quarter numbers on the board that validate the thesis.
The setup for August 2026 is unique. NVIDIA just guided to another record quarter, Amazon delivered its fastest AWS growth in more than four years, and Palantir posted a Rule of 40 score above 150. These are the kinds of prints that separate durable compounders from cyclical winners, and they justify a fresh look this month.
NVIDIA: The AI Infrastructure Standard
NVIDIA (NASDAQ:NVDA | NVDA Price Prediction) trades at $206.64 after a 5.15% weekly gain and a 10.93% year-to-date advance. The market cap sits at $5.005 trillion, and the multiple, at roughly 42 trailing earnings, keeps pace with a business that grew Q1 FY27 revenue 85.2% to $81.61 billion.
Data Center revenue reached $75.25 billion, up 92% year over year, with networking growing 199%. Management guided Q2 FY27 revenue to $91.0 billion plus or minus 2%, and that figure excludes any China Data Center compute contribution. CEO Jensen Huang framed the moment plainly: "The buildout of AI factories, the largest infrastructure expansion in human history, is accelerating at extraordinary speed."
Wall Street backs the thesis. 95% of the 61 covering analysts rate NVIDIA Buy or Strong Buy, with an average target of $302.83. Base case five-year projections point to $398.19 by August 2031, roughly a 14.02% annualized compounding path.
Risk to watch: China exposure remains the swing variable. NVIDIA booked zero H20 revenue from China in Q1 versus $4.6 billion a year earlier, and hyperscaler capex concentration means any pause in cloud buildout ripples through the model faster than for most mega caps. Beta of 2.21 confirms the volatility is real.
Amazon: AWS Reacceleration Meets Ad-Business Momentum
Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) has quietly become one of the strongest large-cap performers of 2026. Shares closed at $284.02, up 22.75% in the past week alone and 23.05% year to date. The catalyst was the July 30 earnings report.
Q2 revenue landed at $200.61 billion, growing 19.62%, and EPS printed $5.75 against a $1.8227 consensus (net income was inflated by a $53.40 billion non-operating Anthropic gain, so treat headline profit with care). AWS grew 37% to $42.23 billion at a 39.4% operating margin. Advertising expanded 26% to $19.8 billion.
CEO Andy Jassy told investors, "AWS is booming, growing 36.7% year-over-year in Q2, our fastest growth in 18 quarters, and our AI and Chips businesses each eclipsed run rates of more than $25 billion." Two separate $25 billion-plus AI franchises inside a single cloud segment is the sort of scale that resets the terminal-value math.
The base-case five-year projection points to $918.23 by August 2031, a 26.45% annualized return path. 95% of analysts are bullish with a consensus target of $321.95.
Risk to watch: Capex hit $54.2 billion in the quarter alone, pushing trailing free cash flow to negative $7.6 billion. Amazon is spending heavily to lock in AI capacity, and any slippage in AWS demand would leave depreciation as a real drag on reported margins.
Palantir: Hypergrowth With a Sovereignty Moat
Palantir (NASDAQ:PLTR) reported Q2 results on August 3. Revenue grew 92.83% to $1.94 billion, EPS came in at $0.41 versus a $0.346 consensus, and the Rule of 40 score hit 155%. U.S. commercial revenue soared 149% to $764 million, and U.S. government revenue climbed 90% to $809 million.
Management raised full-year 2026 revenue guidance to $8.15 billion to $8.16 billion, implying 82% growth, with adjusted free cash flow of $4.5 billion to $4.7 billion. CEO Alex Karp described the moment: "Demand for AI sovereignty has now been unleashed… our U.S. commercial revenue grew 149% year-over-year, our overall revenue grew 93% year-over-year, and our Rule of 40 score climbed to 155%."
The stock has been the group laggard, down 29.31% year to date at $125.65, and that gap between fundamentals and price is precisely why it earns a spot on the August list. Base-case modeling points to $317.33 by August 2031, a 20.36% annualized return. Reddit sentiment scores held at 78 to 79 across the post-earnings window, suggesting retail conviction is intact.
Risk to watch: Palantir carries a P/E near 178 and issued $265 million in stock-based compensation in Q2. Any deceleration in commercial growth would compress the multiple hard. Contracts are also terminable for convenience, and the revenue base remains U.S.-heavy.
The 2030 Framing
Each of these three businesses is spending, hiring, and contracting as if AI infrastructure is entering its most productive phase. That is the through-line worth owning into 2030: platform scale, expanding margins in the profitable segments, and management teams treating 2026 as year one of a longer buildout. August has historically been a window when institutional investors reset positioning ahead of Q3 volatility.
