The FTSE 100 opened just 0.1% higher, a move that is technically positive but tells a quieter story than what is happening across the Channel.

Frankfurt is doing the heavier work this morning, with the DAX up 0.5% at the bell, a meaningful gap when both markets are trading at the same moment and capital at the open tilts toward German assets.

For investors with broad European exposure, the split matters. A blended fund or ETF tracking the region will catch some of the DAX's lift, but a portfolio weighted toward UK large-caps is sitting in the slower lane this morning.

The FTSE has also been working through a rougher stretch in recent sessions, pulling back before stabilising near current prices, and Monday's open holds that recovery by only a slim margin. Whether London can close the gap with Frankfurt through the session is worth watching today.
