A sixth straight EPS beat and 70% year-over-year revenue growth from AI-driven test demand was not enough, a sign the bar was already set high. The Q4 revenue guide brackets this quarter's result, which is what traders seized on.

Teradyne posted adjusted non-GAAP EPS of $2.29 for the third quarter of 2026, beating the $2.05 consensus and extending its streak of earnings beats to six quarters. Revenue of $1.31 billion also topped expectations, fueled by record performance in Memory and Integrated Systems Test as AI-driven demand spread across the semiconductor ecosystem.

The Semiconductor Test segment was the engine, contributing $1.07 billion of the quarter's revenue. Robotics, which went through a restructuring just a year ago, turned profitable and delivered its strongest third-quarter revenue yet, a signal that the segment is stabilizing.

Non-GAAP operating margin expanded to 31.6% from 20.4% a year earlier, and net income grew sharply year over year. The company also repurchased common stock during the quarter and declared a cash dividend.

Despite all of that, shares fell roughly 6.6% following the announcement. The market's reaction came down to Q4 guidance: Teradyne projected Q4 revenue of $1.25 billion to $1.35 billion, bracketing the Q3 result, with non-GAAP EPS guidance below the $2.29 just reported. For a stock priced to accelerate, that range reset expectations.

CEO Greg Smith pointed to the company's wafer-to-data-center strategy and described the business heading into 2027 as more diversified, with demand extending from memory and hard disk drive test to high-speed interconnect and robotics. The key question investors will track is whether the Q4 guide proves conservative, as several of the past six beats have been, or whether the pace of AI-driven test demand is genuinely plateauing at these levels.
