Bitwise launched the fund on September 29, 2026, giving U.S. investors their first regulated, exchange-listed spot vehicle tied to NEAR Protocol that also passes along staking rewards. That combination of spot exposure and native yield in a single brokerage account has not been available before in this form.

The fund carries a 0.75% annual fee, which is the cost investors pay to access NEAR and its staking income without managing wallets, private keys, or validator relationships themselves. Whether that fee is justified depends on how much staking yield the fund actually distributes, a figure that will become clearer once the fund begins reporting.

The listing was flagged by Bloomberg ETF analyst Eric Balchunas, who retweeted the announcement on the day of launch. The post drew 64 retweets, a signal that the crypto ETF community took immediate notice of the structure.

For the broader digital asset ETF market, the fund is notable as a proof of concept. If a staking-attached spot product can list and attract assets for a layer-one blockchain like NEAR, it raises the question of which other proof-of-stake networks see similar vehicles follow.
