Cybersecurity stocks surge Monday as chip names take a beating

Zscaler finished Monday up 16.8% at $192.17 while Coherent shed 12.5%. Four of the top five gainers are cybersecurity names, and four of the five losers are chip and infrastructure plays.

Cybersecurity took four of the five top gainer slots, led by Zscaler's close at $192.17 after rising nearly 17%. Rubrik, SentinelOne and Palo Alto Networks followed, with industrial IoT platform Samsara rounding out the five.

The decliners were just as concentrated: Coherent fell 12.5%, with Astera Labs, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Arm and Applied Optoelectronics also lower. Four of the five biggest losers were chip or hardware infrastructure plays.

The divergence between these two groups on the same day points to investors rotating capital rather than simply reacting to broad market pressure. Money leaving semiconductor and optical networking names found a home in cloud security stocks.

For anyone holding positions in either camp, the session's closing prices set the levels to track when trading resumes. Zscaler at $192.17 marks the line on the upside, Coherent at $267.13 on the downside.
