AI infrastructure and neocloud names are stealing the spotlight. Nebius Group (NASDAQ:NBIS | NBIS Price Prediction) surged 30.5% today, extending a year-to-date gain of 201.27% and a one-year advance of 234.77%. CoreWeave (NASDAQ:CRWV) jumped 19.44% in the same session, though its 12-month record still shows a 27.45% decline. IREN (NASDAQ:IREN) added 9.12% and Applied Digital (NASDAQ:APLD) rose 4.72%. The catalyst: back-to-back earnings reports that reset the market’s read on GPU-as-a-service economics.
CoreWeave posted Q2 revenue of $2.575 billion, up 112.3% year over year, while adjusted EBITDA doubled to $1.51 billion at a 59% margin. Revenue backlog reached roughly $104 billion, an “important inflection point,” according to CEO Michael Intrator, as CoreWeave’s growing scale began translating into operating leverage.
Nebius moved even faster, with revenue surging 454% to $582.3 million and its annualized run rate reaching $3.0 billion. The company also closed four AI cloud deals averaging more than $1 billion apiece in total contract value. CEO Arkady Volozh summed it up: “We closed our largest AI Cloud deals on our strongest terms to date, at prices that represent a step-change in the economics of our business.”
Valuation: Rich, But Anchored to Contracted Revenue
These names trade at a premium. CoreWeave carries a price-to-sales ratio of 7.91 with a P/B of 12; Nebius trades at a P/S of 53.25 despite negative EBITDA. The operative comparison, however, is contracted revenue. CoreWeave’s $104 billion backlog dwarfs its $58.8 billion market cap. Nebius expects over $9 billion in customer prepayments in 2026. Applied Digital has 600 MW under contract representing roughly $16 billion in prospective lease revenue against a $8.37 billion market cap. On a forward-visibility basis, the group looks aggressive rather than absurd.
Forward Catalyst: The $700B Capex Wave
Applied Digital’s CEO Wes Cummins pegs hyperscaler capex climbing from roughly $400 billion to nearly $700 billion annually. NVIDIA’s newly disclosed $500 billion AI fund extends the runway further, offering neoclouds a fresh capital partner alongside their supplier. IREN’s headline deal illustrates the dynamic: a five-year, $3.4 billion AI cloud contract with NVIDIA, plus up to $2.1 billion in NVIDIA investment vesting as GPU capacity scales toward 600,000 GPUs. When the key supplier also acts as capital partner, the financing bear case gets harder to argue. Polymarket also assigns a 0.665 probability that NVIDIA hits $232 in August, a sentiment tailwind for the entire GPU-cloud chain.
Risk and Entry: Where the Downside Lives
The risks are real. CoreWeave carries $72.046 billion in total liabilities and $640 million in quarterly interest expense, which is up 139% YoY. the company burned $5.743 billion in free cash flow last quarter. Nebius diluted shareholders through a $2.8 billion ATM raise. Every name depends on NVIDIA supply, hyperscaler demand, and simultaneous construction execution. Retail sentiment on CoreWeave sat at mixed levels heading into today’s spike, a reminder that these stocks trade on narrative velocity.
The New ETF Option
For readers who like the theme without single-stock risk, Roundhill Investments has launched a neocloud-focused ETF providing diversified exposure across the pure-play GPU cloud names covered here. CoreWeave, Nebius, IREN, and Applied Digital all rank among its top 10 holdings, spreading execution risk across operators while preserving exposure to the same AI infrastructure buildout. For investors weighing exposure to the theme, a basket approach spreads execution risk across operators rather than concentrating it in one name.
Verdict: There Is Still Time
The backlog-to-market-cap math still supports the space, NVIDIA’s capital commitments extend the cycle into 2027 and beyond, and only Nebius has run so far that the entry looks strained on a single-day basis. For investors evaluating the theme, the diversified ETF offers a more contained expression of the thesis than a single-ticker bet, though drawdowns of 20%-plus remain plausible given the group’s inherent volatility.
