Citi analyst Ronald Josey added an “upside 90-day catalyst watch” on Meta (NASDAQ:META | META Price Prediction) while keeping a buy rating and $800 price target heading into the company’s Connect conference next week. The call is a conviction reiteration that puts a spotlight on the September 23 event as the near-term trigger for Meta stock.

For long-term investors, Citi’s reiterated $800 target frames Connect as the checkpoint on whether Meta’s AI spending is starting to translate into visible product wins.

Citi’s Case for a Pre-Connect Catalyst Watch

Josey told clients Meta’s product roadmap brings “multiple catalysts ahead,” with Connect expected to deliver clarity on product strategy, including updates for Muse, next-generation models, and Meta glasses. Citi believes these new AI products will drive better engagement and monetization over time.

Management has already teased the event, with CEO Mark Zuckerberg saying Meta would share more about its glasses lineup at Connect and describing the category as one of the fastest-growing consumer electronics products.

Snapshot of the Family of Apps Machine

Meta owns Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger, Threads, Meta Quest, and Ray-Ban Meta. In Q2 2026, revenue reached $60.80 billion, up 27.96% year over year, while diluted EPS of $6.18 missed consensus by 14.42% as total costs jumped on legal charges and severance.

Family of Apps daily active people hit 3.60 billion, and AI-powered Advantage Plus solutions reached over $75 billion in annual revenue run rate.

Options traders are also leaning in: the September 23 expiration showed 4,522 calls traded against 1,726 puts. Meta saw a 60% increase in the number of people interacting with Meta AI each day after it was rebuilt and integrated with Muse Spark, adding weight to Citi’s engagement thesis.

Portfolio Playbook for Retirement-Focused Investors

Meta stock offers rare scale: an operating margin of 41.4%, ROE of 30.24%, and a market cap near $1.50 trillion.

Risks are real. FY26 capex was narrowed to $130 to $145 billion, free cash flow collapsed to $784 million in Q2, and management flagged ongoing youth-related legal and regulatory matters with U.S. trials that may result in material losses.

For long-term holders, Citi’s catalyst watch is a reason to review position sizing before Connect. Capex at that scale also flows straight to the power, cooling, and networking suppliers behind the data centers, which we profiled in a free report on seven AI infrastructure names that aren’t chipmakers. The Connect stage on September 23 will tell investors whether Meta’s AI capex is starting to pay for itself.
